Sunday at Floydfest 13!
Caught some runners finishing up the 5K on my way to the showers. Then the dancing started! The Dirty beggars got the Sunday crowd dancing at the Hill Holler stage with their Appalachian/Scottish fusion. But the real highlight was The Carolina Chocolate drops on the main stage. They were AMAZING! Along with the other dancers it was great to see our old friend Arthur Grimes up there with them, getting down! Floydfest favorite Paper Bird impressed with a soulful harmonic sound. A daytime show of Groundnation on the main stage kept the rhythm going while the wind almost blew us off the mountain. Swamp Candy RULED the Ferrum College front porch stage AGAIN. They should have a permanent spot there, so intimate and raw. Then a food stop for some angry tots and brussel sprouts at Brunos Gastrotruck, crazy good. Caught another show of the CCD at the speakeasy tent, they were great and seemed very appreciative of all the love the crowd showed.
Curtis Eller’s American Circus provided a strangely awesome transition into the last night at Floydfest. The crowd in the garden stage was really moving. Then the Hackensaw boys drove the good ship Floydfest into the night. Amazing show with so much energy that nobody wanted to stop.
But eventually Floydfest has to end.
